Summer is coming!

Time to get the front porch ready!

(I think I have an obsession with old metal lawn chairs!)

I do love my old metal chairs.  I've gotten most of them from Muzzy's Alley in downtown Greenville.  But several came from my parents and one or two came from a garage sale.  I just can't say no to them!

More work on the Master Bath

I decided to be a little productive before I return to work next week.  One of my first fun projects was the vanity area of the bathroom that I paper mâché wall papered and then spray painted the counters with a hammered copper spray paint.  That project took me all weekend and I haven't touched that room since then.  The counter tops in the two rooms were different and it just didn't look good.

Today I painted the counter tops to match the vanity room and then decided to use the left over tiles from the guest bathroom project to update the laminate floor.

Here are a few pictures from the project...

As soon as I get a chance to get more tile, I'm thinking I'll change the counter trim/backsplash to something like what's in the above picture.

Office to Work

I slowly started converting the office to my (craft) work room.  I'm a little concerned that it is a room that is always open and it will need to stay orderly, but I'm going forward.  I converted an old sectional entertainment set to an upright storage cabinet, brought in a black bar table ( I have matching stools, they are just still in the garage) and finally got out some personal decor and my favorite clock!

My Peyote Obsession (..totally not related to the house, but this is my only blog, so it's going to have a random post or two)

I know this is not related to the house, but since this is my only blog, it's going to have to be accepted as a random post. :)

I started a new hobby, peyote stitch bracelets.  The first one took me nearly two weeks.  I've gotten a little faster and started experimenting with different bead shapes.

Guest Bathroom

The peach walls in the bathroom weren't me, I had nothing that matched peach.  I painted them the same Aged Hazelnut pale yellow that I had used in the master bedroom (mainly because I bought three gallons of it thinking the bedroom would take a lot... it took less than one gallon)

These changes kept me happy for a few months until we could attack the vanity and floor.

Over the Christmas break I decided it was time to tear out the guest bathroom. The wall behind the vanity had some water damage so the sheet-rock had to go.

Time for new floors. I decided to go with a 18x18 linoleum tile. It was easy to put down and I think the dark color will go well with the antique mantel that is going in as the mirror unit (see next section).

Before and After

I purchased an antique mantel from Muzzy's Alley in Greenville back before we ever bought the house. I loved it and it was the right price. However, this house does not have a fireplace. So I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the mantel, but I wanted to incorporate it somehow.

Leave it to Pinterest to give me an idea... Use it in the bathroom to create an updated look with a classic flare.

It is still a work in progress, but this gives you an idea of what it will eventually look like.

October 2013
After taking several months off from house remodeling, we finally made some progress on the guest bathroom.

We still need to put up trim and finish a few other minor areas, but any progress is good progress!

We decided to go for as much of an industrial look as we could make look decent.  So we removed the old fixtures and updated them with some pipe-made fixtures that we were able to put together.

Hanging on...

We finally decided to hang a few things.

And we are starting to collect things that we will eventually hang somewhere.

We've only been here a year and still have bare walls.  No biggy!

Dinner time!

We got this amazing table for a heck of a bargain... free!  Thanks to Wyman & Harriet Williams.  We finally got it put together.  The chairs are from another set I had in storage.  I'm planning on painting them soon.  But here we are for now.

Update:  I got around to refinishing this jewel in November of 2014.  I LOVE the way it turned out.  Be sure to check it out (Trial and Error Kitchen Table).

The West Porch

There is a small porch on the west side of the house, just off if the den/dining room that attaches to the back garage door.  I hadn't given that area much attention.  Now, everyone knows how much I love old metal lawn chairs, so when mom and I found a white one last Friday at an estate sale, I couldn't pass it up.  I don't buy many white or light colored accessories for the outside because of the light colored brick on the house.  To make this chair pop I needed something different to surround it...

The west porch.

I had used the porch as a place to paint various items..

The end result..

The chair that started it all..

A before and after.  It was scary going red, but I think I like it!

Mailbox Decon/recon-struction

We decided it was a great day to take down the mailbox. The bricks up top were falling off and it wasn't the same as the house.
